No heat or no cooling: book a repair
Heating calls here come mostly between November and March, when a furnace that sat idle all summer has to light every cold morning. If yours blows cold air, starts and stops, or will not start at all, book furnace repair. A dirty flame sensor, a failed igniter, a pressure switch or a clogged filter tripping the high-limit switch causes most of these calls. The furnace or AC is getting old: compare replacement
Repeated repairs, a cracked heat exchanger or a failed compressor on an older system usually start the replacement conversation. Furnace installation and AC installation replace equipment with a system sized for the house, not copied from the old unit’s label. A heat pump heats and cools with one system, and ductless mini-splits suit additions, garages and rooms the ducts never reached. New-system installations include a free in-home estimate.
It works, but it is due for a check
HVAC maintenance covers both halves of the system. Book the furnace check in the fall, before the first cold nights, and the AC check in spring, before the hot afternoons that usually start in June. One room is too hot, too cold or too dusty
A bigger unit rarely fixes this. In the 1950s–1980s tract homes common in Fremont and Newark, ducts run through the attic or crawlspace and can be crushed, leaky or too small for a later addition. Sun-loaded rooms in hillside homes toward Mission San Jose often need their own zone. A mini-split, a zoned duct system or a smart thermostat with room sensors can even out the house.
